Our first summer singles league has recently started with 14 members taking part. Each player has a ‘home’ and ‘away’ match consisting of best-of-three games, over the coming weeks. The number of wins is recorded and points difference to determine the winner of the trophies. Good luck to all.
We had a lovely day recently at the Fernwood club. They had invited us over again for a friendly and lunch, and the weather was perfect. Our little band learn quite a bit from the Newark club, not least that our pistes back home are woefully soft.
There was good mornings play with a handful of wins on our part. They are always competitive but we managed to hold our own against their strengths. There was a huge lunch ready for us afterwards, Fernwood really are the go-to club for looking after their guests.
Jessica who is 11, came along with her father, Danny.
Our long-awaited club sign is up now on the piste railings. A huge thank you to Mike Lapinski for all the creative and graphics work, and the skills to make the sign fit and look great. Most of our news will be on the website now, so keep an eye out for events and club news.
There will be a special U3A day on the 24 th May when members from Forest town and Sherwood branches are coming along to try us out. Roger and Ann will welcome them and explain the game to those who are new to it. We hope that this last Wednesday in the month becomes a regular feature.
We are considering holding an evening play session, maybe on Thursdays or Fridays, to try and encourage working folks and teenagers to come along. Last year Agata, Patrik and others had a few games, and we’d like to capitalise on their youthful enthusiasm.
It was Stan Lambeth’s Birthday on Saturday last, and he was 90! He and Ernestine were huge supporters of the Titchfield club, and it’s great to have him come along to us. He’s always up with the local news, and very helpful to the club. Thanks for his loyalty
A milestone lately as we have we have over 30 paying members now. This new influx of nice folks and old has made us a little more financially secure. Fees and subscriptions are a lifeline.
Our first pizza evening went off with an ‘explosión!’
Dominoes did us proud with a half-price offer, and nearly 20 of us dug into various pizzas and sides. Thanks to Arsene and Richard for the big order and Linda for the financial arrangements.
This Tuesday, six new players joined us for a game in the sunshine, including five from Roger and Ann’s walking group. Welcome to David and Marjorie, Jim and Caroline, Gwen, and Ron.
A draft copy of Mike’s wonderful design for a club banner was displayed for all to see on the noticeboard.
Tuesday night last was our first fish and chips night, food supplied by Woodhouse chip shop. We had a great afternoons play, hosting some nice folks from a walking group of which Roger and Ann are members. There was a lot of laughter and interest in the game, amongst 30 or so players, our best turnout yet.
Afterwards the meals were collected, and a lot of us had trouble with the generous portion sizes ! We were squeezed in to our pavilion room which made the whole thing very convivial. The evening finished off with celebrity picture quiz, the winner scoring 28 out of a possible 32. How cool is that ?
